About Larz Anderson Museum
Inside an 1888 carriage house in Brookline's Larz Anderson Park, a short drive from downtown Boston, the Larz Anderson Auto Museum keeps what it calls America's oldest car collection. Larz and Isabel Anderson began buying automobiles with an 1899 Winton and went on to buy 32 new motorcars by 1948. Fourteen of those cars are still in the museum's collection. The museum mounts rotating exhibits and runs automotive history lectures, family programs, car shows and its warm-weather Lawn Events. The museum's work is about preserving and presenting early automobiles more than servicing them: keeping a century-old collection in exhibition condition, rotating displays through a landmark building and hosting car shows on the park grounds. Its website has an Open Positions page but currently lists no specific jobs, volunteer roles or internships, so the best way to ask about openings is to contact the museum directly. The collection survives because of Isabel Anderson's will. After she died in 1948 it was entrusted to the Veteran Motor Car Club of America, which opened an antique auto museum at the park in October 1949. The Carriage House, modeled on the Château de Chaumont in the Loire Valley, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
